Age of Empires
This game is exceptionally not produced by a computer-games-only company but
by Microsoft.
Age of Empires was one of the first real-time strategy games that were
on the market, combining different periods of time. This meant for the
gamer to react on the human evolution and the technical development
starting with swords and ending with rifles.
Some people said that AOE is only a cheap copy of the already existing
real-time games but these people were minorities.
AOE had already with the first edition a lot to offer: the gamer had
the opportunities to play with other people on a network or via modem
on the internet. He could build his own maps or even create own missions.
The first missionpak, Rise of Rome added even more features and by that
fans to the “Empire”.
The second part Age of Kings brought even more success and le the critical
voices disappear. The graphics were very good and could easily compete
with its concurrence. After another two missionpaks AOE had grown to
one of the most respected real-time strategy games of our time.
The actual edition, Age of Mythology brought some new features into
the AOE universe and fulfilled many fan’s hopes.
