Command & ConquerOne of the most known real-time strategy games of course Command & Conquer. The first part, The Tiberium Conflict, was available 1995 and influenced the genre in those days. The gamer had to choose between the good (GDI) and the bad (NOD) and had to solve with each side a bunch of missions. Of course, the first version off C&C had its bugs especially when trying to collect tiberium with the tractors but nevertheless the first gamers of C&C became addicts. They wanted more and got a Mission Pak. This one offered new missions, new vehicles and some new tools plus it started a real hype on card editors. Every company offered after a short period of time a c&c card editor even those companies who before of that never ever thought of coping with the command and conquer universe.
The sequel was released nearly one year after the first part came into stores and was called Command & Conquer – Red Alert. This part took place before the time of the first part and explained the very beginnings of the story. The graphic was of course much better than the one of the first part, and so it was decided to launch a remake of the first part, but this time with SVGA graphics. This one was called Command & Conquer – Gold edition and was released in 1997. Furthermore the original part was only playable in DOS, while the gold edition could also be played under windows. Again a mission pak was released and for the very fast player shortly after the first another mission pak. Both offered new technologies, units and way more missions.
After a short break, the next part was released, it was called Tiberian Sun. With a completely new engine and improved resolution the gamer had the opportunity to see what happens next and again the gamers did not had to wait long for the next sequel. Red Alert 2 had the same engine as the first part, but there were quite a few new things to do and of course, there was a mission pak coming up. It was called Yuri’s revenge and included even more missions.
After having accomplished great success with the “traditional” command and conquer row, there were new ways to go and so command and conquer renegade came up. This time it was more like an ego-shooter with a bit of real-time strategy elements. The people did not like this new kind of game very much and so the actual edition of command and conquer, which is called C&C generals, follows the typical line of C&C and seems to be very successful again with that.
