Warcraft

The strategy-game by Blizzard was released in the third edition this year and is called Warcraft III – The Reign of Chaos. Additionally there is an expansion set called The Frozen Throne.

These two new games join into a row of successful and popular games of real-time strategy.

The first part of the Warcraft Saga was called Warcraft – Orcs and Humans and can be seen as the breakthrough 1994 for the formerly unknown company Blizzard. The game got judgments in every known games magazine above the 90 % mark.
The story behind the game is the one of the orcs, entering the Azeroth, the human’s land and them defending it against the nearing evil. Of course, there are a lot of difficult quests to solve, heroes to defend and much more.

In fact, Warcraft I was only the beginning and Blizzard of course didn’t stop developing. One year later, Warcraft II – Tides of Darkness was released, this time with improved graphics, new videos and an incredible game play. Blizzard earned quite a lot with the Warcraft and they wanted to thank their customers by offering them a new dimension of multiplayer gaming by creating the battle-net. Unfortunately Warcraft II was already out, so they made a new edition, the Warcraft II Battle-net edition. Additionally the customers of Blizzards newest creation, Diablo, could be happy because they also got the battle-net, offering millions of new possibilities. Nevertheless, the Warcraft players did not had to wait long for their sequel, either: Warcraft II – Beyond the Dark Portal was the name of the new expansion set Blizzard released. This took the story further and added a lot of new fans.
After a long time of domination in the real-time strategy genre, Warcraft fell back on rank two, behind new game called Starcraft. Blizzard didn’t mind that much, because Starcraft was the newest invention they did. Starcraft of course got an expansion set too, which was called Broodwars. Starcraft included, as well as Diablo, the new Battle-net which made Blizzard very popular. The biggest deal in fact was Diablo 2, released in summer 2000, which became the fastest sold-out game of all times.

Blizzard was now surrounded by fans, but nevertheless stayed real. Short time ago Blizzard released the third part of Warcraft: Reign of Chaos plus the expansion Frozen Throne. With this game Blizzard proved once again that their games dominate the genre until they release a new one, themselves.
